Welcome to the 2023 Rockaway Valley School soccer program. Below is a list of program rules that will be followed by coach, student athlete, and parent. These rules are not to make this a negative experience, but rather a positive learning environment for all.

1. FORMS - All forms (the athletic team contract, emergency card, concussion forms) must be turned in to your coach before you can play. In addition, a recent sports physical must be on file in the nurse's office.

2. COMMITMENT - Since practice is the only way one can improve skills and play, you need to make the commitment to practice and play soccer every weekday. Be present at the practice; no cell phones are permitted at any time during practices or games.

3. SOCCER SEASON - The season will begin during the first week of school in September and end around the end of October. We either practice or play games almost every weekday. Weekly schedules notifying you of the week's games and practices will be posted on the website by Sunday evening. It would be greatly appreciated that your son is picked up on time!!!!

4. PRACTICE TIME - Practices take place at RVA Fields. Practice will be immediately after school 2:30-4:30. If there is a sudden change to the schedule, parents will be notified via the Instant Alert System (just like the messages you receive when school is cancelled for snow). All boys are expected to wear appropriate practice attire.

5. ABSENCES - A player who is ill or injured must notify the coach by email, phone, or parental note stating reason for excuse. Parents, if your child is absent, please send me an email as I don't always see players who are in grades other than 8th.

6. PRACTICE/GAME POLICY - If you miss a practice/game for an unexcused reason, you WILL NOT start the next game. It is the coach's discretion when/if you will get in the game. Upon the second unexcused absence, a warning will be issued along with not starting the next game. A third offense may result in suspension from a game(s). A fourth offense may result in suspension or removal from the team.

7. PLAYING TIME - Playing time is not given by the coach - it is earned by the player. Playing time is based on ATTITUDE, PERFORMANCE, and TEAMWORK!!! Players are always encouraged to speak to the coach if there are questions/concerns with playing time.

8. PICK UP FROM AN AWAY GAME - All students are able to ride the bus to and from an away game. If for some reason you must take your child from an away game, go to the school website, www.rvsnj.org and under RVS Activities, click on RVS Sports Home and download the transportation form to hand to the coach.

9. PAY TO PARTICIPATE - Students who make the soccer team will be required to pay a fee of $75 to participate. Checks should be made out to the Boonton Township Board of Education.

10. END OF PRACTICE - If you want your son to stay at RFL after a home game or practice, I MUST have a note specifying that he has permission to stay or walk home. Additionally, if there is a time difference between the end of RVS practice and another practice, please include in your note that you understand that I am not responsible for your child during that time difference. You may write a note that covers the whole season. For example, you can say, "Sam has permission to walk home from RFL/ to another soccer practice all soccer season and can wait on his own between practices."
