Welcome to 6th Grade Social Studies!

Throughout 6th grade, students will continue to learn about early United States history, starting with the period after the American Revolution and continuing through the Civil War and Reconstruction. Our studies of the founding fathers and their work to establish a new government will lead us into our study of civics. We will be examining our country's foundational documents and completing a thorough study of government to help our students become interested in and invested in the idea of citizenship. We will also be examining events in American history from multiple perspectives and developing an understanding of how these events impacted multiple cultural and religious groups residing in the United States and around the world.

June: It’s hard to believe that we are in the last month of school! This month we will be learning about the Civil War. Students will develop an understanding of how our nation was torn apart, and the determination of Lincoln and the North to preserve the Union. As we learn about the war, we will be examining multiple perspectives in the hopes of creating a more complete understanding of what life was like for all people during this period in history. We will also be examining the Emancipation Proclamation and reviewing the Reconstruction Amendments that officially ended slavery in the United States of America.

Looking ahead, I hope you all have a wonderful summer vacation! Remember history is all around us, stay curious and keep learning! Good luck in 7th grade!!
