Mrs. Fusco's Class News

ART ROOM News:

Kindergarten - So much to explore and learn in Kindergarten Art! We created amazing snowy villages using basic shapes and collage techniques.  We practiced our composition skills by laying out our village and trees.  We strengthened our pincer grasp to carefully paint our snow falling.   Now we are ready for spring and ready to explore texture while we create birds in a nest in a tree.

1st Grade - We are printmakers! We talked about landscapes and horizon lines, we drew our own (into styrofoam), including a house and other details.  The magic of rolling ink and stamping a print is so satisfying for every artist!  We will explore basic shapes to draw our color wheel umbrellas next!

2nd Grade -Our hand-drawn Snow Foxes did anything but blend in this winter!  Their bright orange fur coats (carefully blended with crayons!) refused to be ignored in the hallways. We enjoyed some collage/mixed media work for some knock-out hearts.  Next up, we will combine some drawing and collage skills for a combined media paper sculpture that is sure to spring joy!

3rd Grade - Hearts and Stars painted passionately with warm and cool color families has been the focus of 3rd grade recently.  A great release after the business of flag matching for 3rd grade's upcoming Culture Show.   Next up, we will get a little wild, while keeping all things balanced in our Tiki Symmetry project!

4th Grade - So much imagination is shared in the amazing Castle series that our 4th-grade artists have created.  Using drawing techniques with contrasting paper colors, the results are fantastic.  There may even be a dragon or two, so watch out!!  Next up, they are taking us one step closer to summer with some delicious-looking donut paintings.  How many days til summer?

5th Grade - The Artist Wayne Thiebaud passed away recently at the active age of 101!  He will be best remembered for his delicious paintings of tasty sweets.  We created our own ceramic versions of culinary visions.

6th GradeThe Artist Wayne Thiebaud passed away recently at the active age of 101!  He will be best remembered for his delicious paintings of tasty sweets.  We created our own ceramic versions of culinary visions.   Next up we learn relief sculpture via cardboard and teach Sharpies how to ice skate on shiny foil!

7th Grade - Students explored Still Life through drawing then painting a real or imagined scene.   Drawing and color skills were sharpened while creating graffiti letter tags.  We enter the ceramic challenge of coiling cups in the coming days...

8th Grade - It's been a busy winter for these artists.  They recently completed a 3-color reduction series print.  They also mixed up colors to paint their own interpretation of the color wheel.   We have just started our ceramics unit where they will build a lantern using slabs, creating openings, and developing texture.
